About the Project
I love hot air balloon competition. One of the options available to people in this sport is the use of radiosondes. The problem is, all the ones out there are meant more for real weather research. They're expensive, have tons of features balloonists don't care about, and require separate equipment to interpret the data — and inevitably you lose half of them anyway.
I've been working on developing a new radiosonde specifically for balloonists. They're going to be substantially less expensive, able to launch with a normal-size party balloon, and best of all you'll be able to have your crew launch the PicoSonde and you'll receive the data directly to your laptop in the basket without the use of the internet.
You'll be able to keep the data for yourself, share it with teammates, or even make it public for anyone that has a receiver. I hope to have them ready for real-world use soon — but I feel it's far enough along now that I can start to put together a list of interested parties.
